Langston Chapel Elementary and Middle schools were evacuated around lunchtime Friday after an air-conditioning unit behind the fifth-grade wing caught fire. Everyone was allowed back in about 40 minutes later after the fire was extinguished.

Statesboro police swarmed the Baymont Inn & Suites on South Main Street Thursday afternoon after receiving a call from a man saying he was suicidal and had a firearm. Police evacuated and searched the hotel and gave the "all clear" after not finding that man or a gun.
