Alaina Lewis and Justin Peay were united in marriage during a 3:30 p.m. wedding ceremony held on October 11, 2008, at the First Methodist Church in Statesboro. The Rev. Robert W. Peay, father of the groom, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Tommy and Melanie Lewis of Statesboro and is the granddaughter of Walter and Sara Lewis, Claire and Clayton Phillips and Lewis and Hazel Hendrix.
The groom is the son of the Rev. Robert W. and Terri Peay of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and is the grandson of Spurgeon and Aletha Peay and Don and Betty Braden.
Music was provided by Mr. Pierce Dickens, organist; and Ms. Huxsie Scott, soloist.
Flowers were placed at the entrance of the church in honor of late great-grandparents of the bride and groom.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a couture strapless A-line gown with an empire waist. The dress was made of Schiffli lace with a pick-up skirt and Swarovski crystal beading. The train was Tiffany-length with a gathered ruffle along the edge.
The bride carried an heirloom embroidered handkerchief of her late great-great-grandmother's, Mrs. Flossie Futch, which had also been carried by the mother of the bride, Melanie Lewis, on her wedding day.
Alexis Taylor, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Allie Lewis, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Ashley Allen, Sara Jane Bowers, cousin of the bride; Ashtyn Hart, Amber Hodges, Preslie Lewis, cousin of the bride; Bethany Fox, Whitney Manz, Joelle Strickland, cousin of the bride; and Jennifer Tucker. Honorary bridesmaids were Jessica Collins, Jenna Campbell, Aubrey Brammer, Laura Beblowski and Raina Chance. Katie Ann Bowers, cousin of the bride, was flower girl.
The bridesmaids wore matching European satin strapless dresses in sable with a taupe sash accentuating the natural waist. A flounced pick-up skirt finished the dresses.
Alaina was also assisted by friend Johnna Ware on her wedding day.
Travis Peay, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen/ushers were Alex Peay, brother of the groom; Ryan Federico, Will Adams, Sean Fox, Greg Manz, David Donnan, Bucky Hendrix, uncle of the bride; Justin Lewis, cousin of the bride; Bubba Lewis, brother of the bride; and Abram Taylor, brother-in-law of the bride and groom. Tucker Woodcock, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.
Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at Forest Heights Country Club. Servers were Vicki Connell and Elaine Stone.
The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at the First Methodist Church.
The bride, bridesmaids, mother and grandmothers of the couple were entertained at a breakfast on the day of the wedding by Alana Avret, Sherry Eunice and Susan Allen at the home of Ms. Ann Sherrod Bates.
The couple and their guests were entertained by The Chris Mitchell Band of Statesboro. They were also treated to world-famous pralines as well as sweet chocolate coins made on the spot from Riverstreet Sweets, given to them by the bride's aunt and uncle, Tim and Natalie Strickland.
The couple honeymooned in Los Angeles, Calif., and now resides in Statesboro.
