Mr. and Mrs. Charles Russel Shuman of Pembroke, Ga., are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Kristen Shuman, to Brian Michael Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Butler of Pembroke, Ga.
Kristen is the granddaughter of Shelly Shuman and the late Mary Ann Shuman and Garnette McFarland and the late Maurice McFarland. Kristen graduated from Bryan County High School in 1998 and graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and in 2004 with a Master of Science in Psychology. She is a licensed professional counselor for the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Brian is the grandson of Maxine Butler and the late Elton Butler of Ellabell, Ga., and Jack Drawdy of Springfield, Ga., and the late Lucille Maggioni of Lady's Island, S.C. Brian graduated from Bryan County High School in 1997 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for eight years before being honorably discharged. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in English at Georgia Southern University.
The couple will be married in December 2009 in Statesboro, Ga., at Saint Matthew's Catholic Church.
