Joseph Powell of Statesboro and Suzanna Kirkland of Sylvania announce the engagement of their son, Caleb Fenton Powell, to Rebecca Nicole Smith, daughter of Johnny and Vivian Smith of Homerville.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Brice Smith of Homerville. Rebecca is a graduate of Valdosta State University, where she received a degree in Nursing, and is currently a graduate student at Vanderbilt University, pursuing a Mater's degree in Nursing.
The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Powell, Mrs. Marie Moore and is the great-grandson of Mrs. Kathryn Rees of Sylvania. He is a graduate of Valdosta State University with a degree in Exercise Physiology. He is currently attending medical school at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
The wedding is planned for December 19, 2009, at the Gin Creek Plantation in Hartsville, Ga.
The couple will honeymoon in the Caribbean and will live in Blacksburg, Va.
