A 26-year veteran employee of the Bulloch County Recreation and Parks Department, Dadrian “Dee” Cosby was named Tuesday the department’s new director, taking over for Eddie Canon, who retired over the summer.
Also, Tony Morgan, who started working in the Rec Department as an intern in 2000, was named assistant director.
“I am truly thankful for this opportunity,” Cosby said. “I love the people. I love this county and I’m looking forward to the many ways we will serve the community in the coming future.”
Cosby started with Bulloch Rec in 1998, coaching rec basketball at the same time he was attending Georgia Southern University. The next year he was promoted to part-time field supervisor in Stilson and then in Brooklet. After graduating he was given a full-time position as the department’s Athletic Supervisor overseeing the Portal and Statesboro communities.
Seventeen years later, he was appointed Athletics Division Manager, where he oversaw five full-time employees, seasonal part-time staff and managed the Athletics Division operating budget.
Also, Cosby has sat on many state committees of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association. The committees include Awards Committee, chairman of Students and Young Professionals, Annual Conference Committee, chairman of the Editorial Committee and State Athletic Committee, where he is the current State Athletic Chairman.
He also currently serves as vice president of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association and will move into the president-elect position in November.
After working an internship with Bulloch Rec in 2000, he graduated from ABAC with two turf degrees.
Morgan then became a full-time employee. He took over the role of Parks Division manager in 2010. His duties included planning, directing and overseeing operations and staff for the Parks Division, which includes maintenance and repair of parks and facilities.
The county has nine parks, 2.5-mile S&S Greenway, 27-hole Disc Golf Course. In addition to recreation facilities, he oversaw the grounds maintenance of 42 county owned buildings and facilities, which consists of the Courthouse, Judicial, Magistrate, Fire Dept. and Voting Precincts.
He also develops and implements the budget for the Parks Division, plans and schedules large projects, maintains facility and equipment inventory and replacement schedules.
“We are pleased that our department’s 76-year history produces an in-house pool of leadership to carry out its legacy,” said Bulloch County Manager Tom Couch. “Dadrian and Tony will continue to take Recreation and Parks to the next level in our community for the next generation.”
