Alana Avret has joined Synovus Mortgage Corp. as a mortgage lending officer at Sea Island Bank in Statesboro, according to an announcement by D. Wayne Akins Jr., SIB president and CEO. Avret previously served as a mortgage lender at Park Avenue Bank and a delegated underwriter for Taylor, Bean & Whitaker Mortgage Corporation.
"Alana's experience in mortgage lending, banking and finance will be a tremendous asset for our bank," Akins said. "She has a strong background in a broad range of residential loan programs for primary residences, second homes and investment property.
"Just as important, Alana has been active in numerous civic activities," Akins continued. "She is well-known in our community and we are delighted to have her on our banking team."
Sea Island's new mortgage lending officer graduated cum laude from Georgia Southern University with a finance degree and later earned a Master of Business Administration. She served as a staff accountant for Thigpen & Lanier CPA prior to accepting a teaching position at Ogeechee Technical College as a banking and finance instructor She joined Park Avenue Bank as a mortgage lending officer in 2003.
A graduate of the Capstone Institute of Mortgage Finance, Avret serves as associate vice president of the Statesboro Homebuilders Association. She is a board member for the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association and served on the organizing committee for the 2005-06 Bank Blood Drive sponsored by the American Red Cross.
Avret is also on the advisory board at Ogeechee Technical College and she is a member of Leadership Bulloch Alumni. Avret, her husband Chad and son Evan are members of First United Methodist Church of Statesboro where she serves on the finance board.
