Gold and platinum country music recording artist John Berry will perform his moving Christmas Concert at the Georgia Southern Performing Arts Center on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Berry has received gold and platinum awards for recordings on Columbia, Liberty and Lyric Street Records. An Aiken, S.C., native,  he performs all over the country and has returned to Macon’s Grand Opera House to sold out audiences for several years with his Christmas Concert. Berry is bringing his holiday show to Statesboro in the PAC.
John Edward Berry was born in 1959 to James and Marie Berry, and raised in the Atlanta area. His father listened to concert pianist Van Cliburn, while his mother had a strong taste for gospel and his brother became an opera singer.
Berry gravitated to both soul and country music and began recording his own albums at home in 1979. Before beginning his recording career, Berry established a local reputation in north Georgia playing in area clubs and even performing in parking lots.
Berry is probably best known for "Your Love Amazes Me," which in 1994 became a Number One hit on the Billboard charts. Following it were the #5 "What's in It for Me" and #4 "You and Only You." “You and Only You” also hit Number One on the RPM country charts in Canada.
In the music industry, Berry is known for his strong tenor voice. The high notes he hits in “Closer Walk With Thee” is said to be particularly inspirational.
Tickets to Berry’s Dec. 3 concert at the GSU Performing Arts Center are available at the box-office Tues. – Fri., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or by calling 912-478-7999.
