Bulloch County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Wednesday they have been seeking for months, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
James Jeffrey Stubbs, 46, Mike Brannen Road, Register, was found hiding in a trailer near his home after deputies, acting on a tip, arrived at his residence around 7:30 a.m., he said.
Stubbs was taken into custody without incident on charge of battery (family violence), abuse, neglect, or exploitation of elderly or disabled persons, felony theft by taking, disorderly conduct, obstruction, he said.
The charges stem from a Dec. 9, 2008 incident at Stubbs Wrecking Yard and Metals on U.S. 301 South, where Jeff Stubbs attacked his father, Bobby Stubbs, 74, during an altercation about the younger man having reported to work late, Anderson said.
Jeff Stubbs “got mad” and physically assaulted his father, punching him in the nose, he said. Stubbs fled when Deputy Robert Hemminger arrived at the scene.
Jeff Stubbs also stole over $500 from his father’s business the same day, Anderson said.
Stubbs has an extensive history of arrests leading to incarceration in the Bulloch County Jail, he said. Arrest records on file stem back to at least 1999, including one incident where Stubbs was arrested for physically assaulting a woman because she fried some fish that were “ too salty,” according to sheriff’s reports.
Stubbs is being held in the Bulloch County Jail without bond, Anderson said.
