About 100 volunteers came out on a cold morning to help bag 20,000 pounds of food donated by Bi-Lo, Kens IGA and Nash Finch to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Savannah and the Statesboro Food Bank.
Hands On Southeast Georgia helped organize the event and trucks from Second Harvest brought the food in Saturday morning to the parking lot behind Bi-Lo.
Food Bank officials estimated about 500 people would be served with the free groceries, that included milk, peanut butter, bread and other items.
