Parents and educators have a new educational resource tool available to them with the launch this week of Kidsville News, a fun, family newspaper designed for pre-kindergarten to sixth grade students.
Kidsville News is published in Bulloch County by the Statesboro Herald, which along with sister Morris Multimedia newspapers in Bryan, Liberty and Effingham counties, is introducing this literacy and educational resource publication to the children of Georgia, the 10th state in the nation to offer Kidsville News.
Statesboro Herald publisher Randy Morton said, “We are happy to make Kidsville News available throughout the community, but we are particularly happy for the cooperation with Bulloch County School Superintendent Dr. Jessie Strickland in making it possible for Kidsville News to be distributed free to every student in elementary grades K-5 throughout Bulloch County schools. We are also pleased to make Kidsville News available to students in private and church sponsored schools.”
For home-schooled children and others, Kidsville News is available at the local library. The publication will also be available in both outdoor and indoor racks throughout the area.
“Kidsville News is a unique educational resource,” Bulloch Kidsville News editor Katherine Fitch said, “since it offers interesting games and activities as well as making learning fun for this important age group. Reading and learning are magic and we believe Kidsville News can make an important educational contribution in Bulloch County.”
“Bringing Kidsville News to Bulloch would not have been possible without the help of our strategic business partners,” Morton said. “We really appreciate our initial sponsors Georgia Southern University; Wal-Mart Distribution Center; First Southern National Bank; East Georgia Regional Medical Center; and Edenfield, Cox, Bruce and Classens.  We hope others will join us in this important effort.”
Connie Parker, regional marketing director for Kidsville News said, “Sponsors and advertisers are important to making this whole project work.  We have been pleased with the support for educational excellence in all four counties.  Others who wish to join us can reach me at 912-687-KIDS (5437).”
Joe McGlamery, Morris Multimedia regional vice president for Southeast Georgia, added, “In my more than 30 years with Morris Multimedia, I can’t remember being more excited about any project than I am about this one. Kidsville News will encourage Pre-K through 5th grade students to read. Most experts agree that reading is an important linchpin for all other learning. Therefore, all that we can do to get boys and girls fired up about learning to read is positive action for their life-long learning quests.”
With the start-up of these four newspapers in Southeast Georgia, Kidsville News is now in more than 50 communities from coast-to-coast.
