Memorial Day 2016: Honoring the fallen
Marine veteran recalls visit to Pearl Harbor
W 053016 MEMORIAL DAY 02
U.S. Marine Corps veteran John Sullivan speaks about his recollections of visiting the memorials and monuments at Pearl Harbor during the 2016 Memorial Day observance at the Averitt Center for the Arts.
Statesboro's Emma Kelly Theater was filled to capacity Monday as people gathered for the 2016 Memorial Day observance honoring Bulloch County's fallen soldiers. Beginning with patriotic music by Dr. Michael Braz, the event included intoning the names of Bulloch County soldiers who have lost their lives while fighting for America's freedom. U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. John Sullivan offered the keynote speech in which he recalled a visit he made to Pearl Harbor before the 75th anniversary of the 1941 attack that brought the United States into World War II. Sullivan, who served with the Marine Corps from 1961 through 1965, and his wife, Pat, visited the site on their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
