Pam Tebow, the mother of Tim Tebow, will make an appearance later this month in Statesboro.
Choices of the Heart Pregnancy Resource Center recently announced that Pam Tebow will be the featured guest speaker at its annual banquet, the biggest fundraiser of the year for the nonprofit organization.
According to the biography on her website, pamtebow.com, she was provided a national platform for her pro-life message after ESPN aired a portion of an interview in which she focused on her refusal to abort her youngest son when she was advised to do so.
That son, Tim Tebow, went on to win the Heisman Trophy in his sophomore year with the Florida Gators, be a key part of two national championship teams at Florida, and then play in the NFL.
In 2010, mother and son were in a Super Bowl commercial that celebrated family and life. A Barna survey indicated the commercial resulted in 5.5 million people “having cause to rethink their stand on abortion.” Pam Tebow, according to her online biography, “is also passionate about encouraging women to trust the Lord with all their hearts for all their lives and to use the incredible influence God has given them to eternally impact their world.”
According to a news release, Choices of the Heart Pregnancy Resource Center is a life-affirming Christian ministry seeking to show the unconditional love and grace of Jesus Christ to those touched by unplanned pregnancy. While providing emotional support throughout the pregnancy, the center also strives to educate and provide for the physical needs that come with with pregnancy and parenting.
The center’s mission statement is: “To affirm the value of life by showing the love of Jesus Christ to those experiencing a pregnancy related crisis, and providing a network of care before and after the pregnancy.”
Its services include free pregnancy testing, counseling, parenting and mentoring classes. Its funding, the release says, comes from people who have a heart for the unborn and the mother carrying the child donating to the ministry.
Although the ministry has existed since the mid-‘80s, it has relied for many years on volunteers who have counseled girls affected by an unplanned pregnancy.
In 2011, the organization moved to an office at 220 S. Zetterower Ave. in an effort to be more accessible to all of Statesboro and surrounding areas. During these last few years, the center has been directed by three volunteers: Tammy Olliff, Allison Westerfield and Jennifer Woodard. As they have moved on to other endeavors, the board felt it was time to hire an executive director. In June of this year, Amy Lawson was named the executive director.
The vision of the board of directors is for Choices of the Heart become a medical facility within two years. That would allow the facility to perform free ultrasounds and free testing for sexually transmitted diseases by adding a director of client services and nursing manager to the staff.
This year, the fundraising banquet will be held at Statesboro First Baptist Church on Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $50. Table sponsorships begin at $450, which includes eight tickets and special recognition at the banquet. For a table sponsorship of $550, the sponsor and one guest are invited to a meet-and-greet with Pam Tebow prior to the banquet.
Another added feature this year is a raffle. The grand prize is a Denver Broncos helmet autographed by Tim Tebow, and second prize is an authentic New England Patriots Tim Tebow jersey. Raffle tickets are $10, and you do not have to be present to win.
