Public invited to Freedom Through Recovery event Friday
“Expanding Horizons: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges” to be held at Connection Church

Freedom Through Recovery and the Averitt Center for the Arts will present “Expanding Horizons: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges” at Connection Church in Statesboro on Friday, Aug. 9 from 6-8 p.m.

Connection Church is located at 1342 Cawana Road.

According to a release from Freedom Through Recovery, the event will be an evening of speakers, art projects, food and music.

“Expanding Horizons will raise awareness of opioid misuse prevention and recovery in our community, with speakers from law enforcement, the medical community, government and behavioral health,” the release stated.

The Ripleys will bring music, and Caribbean Feast will provide the first 100 meals free to participants. The Averitt Center will host art activities for the entire family throughout the duration of the event. The organization, which is funded by the Department for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, invites the public to “experience change in the making, while enjoying an evening of art, music, food and speakers.”

Freedom Through Recovery: Susan Ford Recovery Community Organization helps people in their recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. The organization aims to restore families and build recovery-friendly communities.
