Jared Fogle, star of the Subway advertising campaign, will be in Statesboro on Friday promoting the chain during the tenth annual Subway Challenge.
Fogle will be visiting each of the six Subway restaurants in Bulloch County for 30 minutes before spending two hours at a "meet and greet" session at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
The Subway Challenge is a fund raiser for the American Heart and Stroke Association in which all money from sales and donations from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. are donated to the organization for research and education on the dangers of heart disease and stroke.
Last year, the fund raiser netted nearly $8,000.
Making the event even more fun is the fact that local leaders from different areas of the community will be the people making the sandwiches.
Among those scheduled to participate include Hatcher, East Georgia Regional Medical Center CEO Bob Bigley, Ogeechee Technical College President Dawn Cartee, Brooklet Mayor Joe Grooms, Bulloch County School Superintendent Jessie Strickland and others.
Fogle lost more than 200 pounds though a diet of mostly Subway sandwiches and exercise. He has since become a spokesman for the chain, appearing in several commercials promoting the restaurant's healthy options.
