A man and his 8-month-old daughter were each airlifted to hospitals Friday morning after a collision with a Bulloch County school bus.
There were no children on the bus, driven by Marilyn Jones that was involved in the accident at the intersection of Veteran's Memorial Parkway and Cypress Lake Road, said Georgia State Patrol Post 45 Trooper First-Class Tyler Rickman.
Hayley Greene, spokesman for the Bulloch County Schools system, said the bus driver had completed her route picking up and dropping off students at Langston Chapel Middle School and was driving home at just before 8 a.m. She was traveling west on the bypass and stopped at Cypress Lake Road to turn left at the flashing light, Greene said.
Rickman said Jones pulled her school bus into the path of a blue four-door passenger car traveling east on the bypass driven by Deven Campbell, 25, of Statesboro. Campbell steered hard to the right but could not avoid colliding with the school bus, he said.
Greene said the bus spun around to where it was facing east when it stopped, and only slight damage to the bus was visible at the scene. Campbell's car suffered significant damage, including a shattered windshield.
Greene said Jones, 52, is an eight-year veteran with Bulloch County schools with no incidents or accidents prior to Friday's wreck. Rickman said the driver was not injured.
Campbell was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Savannah for a head injury, while his daughter, who was not restrained in a seat, was flown to a hospital in Augusta for treatment of a head injury and for observation. Both are stable, Rickman said.
Georgia State Patrol led the investigation, and both Statesboro Police and Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies responded as well to assist.
        Charges are pending, Rickman said.
