A Statesboro woman pled guilty to embezzlement and must report to prison for a year, as well as pay restitution of more than $260,000. Ashley Stanford, 42, Columbus Drive, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Statesboro after entering a guilty plea to one count of embezzling a financial institution, according to court documents provided to the Statesboro Herald by Alice Ball, legal secretary with the United States Attorney’s Office in Savannah. The documents state Stanford, “beginning Jan. 2013 through Oct. 2015,” used information obtained through her working with Heritage Bank of the South (now Renasant Bank) to embezzle $262.533.30 from the bank.
