STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Ronnie Eugene Lipsey, age 73, died Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Willow Pond under the care of Regency SouthernCare Hospice.
The last seven years have been hard as he suffered with Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s disease and had a mild stroke in December of 2023.
Ronnie was born on January 9th, 1951, in Union, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Orange High School in 1969.
Ronnie was drafted during the Vietnam War in 1971 and served in the Panama Canal Zone until 1973. Upon his discharge, Ronnie joined the Army National Guard in Statesboro, where he served until 1991.
In 1976, he married Myra Smith of Bulloch County.
Ronnie was employed with King Finishing Company, later Wes Tex, which became Milliken, for 43 years, until his retirement in 2020.
Ronnie was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where he earned a BBA degree.
He was a member of Wades Baptist Church in Cooperville.
Ronnie was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Duke Blue Devils.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Lottie Lipsey; two brothers, Maurice “Mickey” Lipsey and James Lipsey; a sister, Barbara Eubanks; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lloyd and Irene Smith.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Myra Smith Lipsey of Statesboro; a son, Jeff Lipsey of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Justin Dyches of Brooklet; two grandchildren, Hailey and Hannah Dyches; and two brothers-in-law, Bennie Eubanks of Rocky Ford and Ricky Smith of Statesboro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Thomas Hendrix officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Cone, Ricky Cook, Jim Blackburn, Ed Quattlebaum, Jim Aziz and Cesar Cifuentez.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Willow Pond and special caregivers, Andrea Jackson, Rose Mobley, Janelle Bowen, James Thomas and Johnnie Mae Atkinson and the staff of Regency SouthernCare Hospice.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Memory Care Unit of Willow Pond, 4344 Country Club Road, Statesboro, GA 30458, for financial assistance to families that are in need to assist in paying caregivers and sitters.
