Mr. Sherman Melvin Jr., age 75, of Statesboro, Ga., passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Memorial Health in Savannah, Ga.
He was a 1966 graduate of William James High School and a college graduate of Albany State College in Albany, Ga.
He was a member of Little Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his health failed.
Sherman was self-employed at Magic Wand, a painting company, in which he owned and operated.
He played professional football for a year with the Kansas City Chiefs and went on to play Canadian football with the Montreal Alouettes, where he played for several years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sherman Melvin III; parents, Sherman Melvin Sr. and Ellen Jones Melvin; his siblings, Samuel Jones, Mary Alice Melvin, Freddie Melvin, Andrew “A.J” Melvin, Emma Jean Melvin, Pauline “Penny” Melvin and Esther Mae Melvin.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his two daughters, Mikesha Seay, Dallas, Texas; and Micola Seay, Marietta, Ga.; seven sons, Kory Demond Melvin, Pulaski, Ga.; Marshannon Seay, Dallas, Texas; Micheal Seay and Myron Seay, Marietta, Ga.; John Melvin, Albany, Ga.; Shannon Chadwell, Pearland, Texas; and Bryce McPherson, Albany, Ga.; siblings, the Rev. Ronnie (Annie) Melvin, Augusta, Ga.; Bishop Tommy (Mary) Melvin, Claxton, Ga.; and Frankie Melvin, Statesboro, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Betty Jones, Savannah, Ga.; Juanita Melvin, Atlanta, Ga.; and Mary Melvin, Claxton, Ga.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A walk-through viewing will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from noon until 1 p.m. at Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home, 238 West Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
The celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home, 238 West Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458, with the Rev. John T. McPhatter as eulogist.
