Junior guard Will Powell scored 14 points in Bulloch Academys 52-30 rout of Frederica Academy Tuesday in GISA Region 2-AA play. Eleven of 13 Gators netted at least a bucket in the win, which gives Bulloch a 6-0 record in the region. It puts us in a pretty good position to play Trinity on Feb. 9 for the number one seed headed into our tournament, said BA head coach Chandler Dennard. Of course, we have to go down to St. Simons and play Frederica on Saturday and I dont expect to win by 22 down there. They will be ready for us. In the earlier girls game, sophomore forward Addie Reddick netted a career-high 18 points in a 46-30 loss to the Lady Knights. In the finale, the Gators (9-11 overall and 6-0 in region play) never got warmed up in the opening stanza but still held a 13-6 lead at the horn. Bullochs zone defense was pretty solid in the second, holding Frederica (3-16, 2-3) to nine as the Gator offense began clicking. BA scored 15 in the second, 8 of 10 from the line, to take a 28-15 halftime advantage. If the Gators were cruising in the second, they hit passing gear in the third as the BA guys out-pointed Frederica 18-2 to take a 46-17 lead at the end of three. We had a chance to put them away early in the third and we did, said Dennard. Dennards second and third squads saw considerable action down the stretch. Other scoring leaders for the Gators were Paul Son with eight, James Conner with seven and Jordan Walker with six. Grayson Mitchell paced Frederica with 11 points. In the opener, the Lady Gators (11-11, 4-2) played well in the opening eight minutes. Both squads exhibited good man defenses and were a little chilly from the field. Reddick had six of Bullochs eight first-quarter points. But things turned down right polar for the Lady Gators in the second quarter as they couldnt buy a basket. Three-pointers, mid-range jumpers, shots in the lanenothing would fall as Bulloch went scoreless in the quarter. Frederica (8-7, 3-2) took advantage of this, netting 14 points to take a 20-8 halftime advantage. The Lady Gators tried to get something going in the third and mounted a little excitement midway through the quarter on back-to-back threes by Reddick and Kacie Lanier. But FA eighth grader Morgan Brian led the way in the third, scoring six of her team-high 16 to pace FA to a 38-21 lead. Vicky Brough added nine for Frederica and Melinda Morales had six.
