After a day off on Sunday, the Georgia Southern Baseball team will need the extra rest with five games, including a pair of mid-week games against Kennesaw State and Jacksonville, on the schedule for this week. The Eagles will be at home for four of them and will host Kennesaw State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and the Southern Conference leader Appalachian State this weekend.

Georgia Southern (18-15, 8-7) is coming off a series sweep of Davidson last weekend and will put their five-game win streak on the line with a home game against the Owls on Tuesday and a road trip to the Dolphins on Wednesday. Eric Phillips' continues to lead to team with a .391 batting average and 36 RBIs. Phillips moved to within four hits of career hit #300 with a two-RBI double in the series finale against the Wildcats. The senior captain is seeking to become the fifth-ever Eagle to reach the 300-hit plateau.

Georgia Southern will send Sam Howard (Cartersville, Ga.) (2-1, 9.53) to the mound in the first mid-week game against Kennesaw State (19-14), and Heath Durand (Martinez, Ga.) will make his first career start at Jacksonville (12-21) on Wednesday. Howard has one start on the year, a three-inning five run performance against Mercer back in February. The freshman left-hander has not appeared in seven games since allowing two runs in 1.2 innings at Georgia Tech. Durand has been stellar out of the bullpen this year and holds a 1-0 record with a 1.80 ERA in seven games.

The Owls are also taking advantage of the off day for Easter on Sunday and will play five games this week as well. Kennesaw State dropped the weekend series against A-Sun conference foe Lipscomb in a tight 2-1 loss in the finale. The Owls have won eight of their last 13 games including a home sweep of North Florida and a 11-9 mid-week victory at Western Carolina. As a team they are hitting .288 with a .415 slugging percentage, and Andy Chriscaden has a team-best eight home runs and 12 doubles on the year.

After a NCAA Regional appearance last year, the Dolphins have been struggling in 2012 and show no signs of snapping out it after opening conference play with a 2-7 mark. After a 17-11 victory by the Eagles back on March 20th, Jacksonville has dropped 9 of their last 11 games. The team is hitting .266 as a squad and holds a 5.34 ERA. All-American Adam Brett Walker has gotten the bat going from the last time GSU saw him and is hitting .300 with six home runs and nine doubles on the year.
