BECKLEY, W.Va. — Rain and lightning in the area delayed the first game of the series between Georgia Southern (18-12) and Marshall (10-17) until today.
Games 1 and 2 will be played starting at 3:05 p.m. Friday's game start was originally delayed until 7:30 p.m., when four GSU batters went to the plate in the top of the first inning before lightning was spotted in the area.
Game 1 will resume with a runner on second base and two outs in the top of the first inning, and Game 2 will follow shortly after the conclusion of the first game.
Georgia Southern got off to a quick start, scoring a run off an Eric Phillips single up the middle.
Shawn Payne smoked the first pitch he saw from Aaron Blair down the left field line for a double to lead off the game. Ben Morgan dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move Payne to third base and set up the Phillips' RBI single.
