SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Women’s basketball sophomore Anna Claire Knight
has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for
Jan. 23, the league office announced today.
Knight drained a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to lift the
Eagles to a 61-58 win over Wofford Sunday afternoon, the second
game-winning, buzzer-beating shot of her career. The Dublin, Ga.,
native led the Eagles with 16 points and added six rebounds and a
blocked shot in GSU’s only game of the week. Knight ranks second on
the team in scoring at 9.3 points a game and leads the Eagles in
rebounding with 5.8 an outing. The pre-sport management major holds a
3.78 grade point average.
Knight is the third Eagle to earn SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week
honors, joining volleyball seniors Kate Van Dyke and Moriah
Bellissimo.
The Georgia Southern women’s basketball team starts a two-game road
swing at UNCG Saturday. The Eagles face Elon on the road Monday, and
following that contest, play seven of their final 10 contests in
Hanner Fieldhouse.
