ATLANTA — No. 22 Georgia Tech pounded out eight runs in the second inning and knocked off Georgia Southern 12-3 Wednesday to take the season series 3-1.
Georgia Tech (14-4) used 10 different pitchers in the game with the starter Dusty Isaacs grabbing the win. Isaacs allowed one run on one hit and struck out four in two innings of work. Will Middour (1-1) was tagged with the loss for Georgia Southern. He allowed seven runs on six hits and worked just over an inning. Colin Snow and Taylor Burke both pitched scoreless innings in relief, while Drew Johnson allowed one run in 3.2 innings, striking out three batters in the process.
Georgia Southern (11-7) scored first for the 11th time this season and second day in a row, but the Yellow Jackets answered in a hurry.
Shawn Payne extended his reached-base streak to 47 games with a hit in the fifth.
GSU returns to Southern Conference play beginning Friday against Samford in Birmingham, Ala.
