NEW YORK — Ekaterina Makarova describes herself as a person who prefers "to stay in the shade." At the U.S. Open, she finally believes she deserves to play under the brightest lights. The 26-year-old Russian reached her first Grand Slam semifinal Wednesday, beating Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 6-2 at the U.S. Open.
