Local Roundup: Portal dominates opener

    SYLVANIA — The Portal Panthers started off the 2012-13 season with a bang Friday, knocking off Screven County, 78-34, in the season opener on the road.
    Freshman Marvin Prescott's welcoming party netted 17 points.
    Stacy Morgan added 13 for the Panthers, and Robert Lee added 11.
    Portal led 15-14 after the first quarter, but ex[panded the lead to 13 at the half and put an end to it with a 25-point third quarter.
    Screven was paced by Antone Bunbury, who finished with 10 points.
    Portal gets back to action today at Bryan County.

Yellow Jackets beat Bryan County
    PEMBROKE — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets opened their schedule with a 52-50 win at Bryan County on Friday.
    Bryan led 28-22 at the half.
    Davonte Tremble led SEB with 17 points and Kaelin Jones scored 12.
    SEB travels to Claxton Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Screven girls win opener against PHS
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County Lady gamecocks cruised to a 55-26, season-opening victory Friday against Portal.
    The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by Shianne Hagins, who netted 10.

SEB MS opens season with win
    PEMBROKE — Southeast Bulloch Middle School defeated Bryan County, 48-28, Friday to start the season with a win.
    Jordan Tremble led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points.
    The Jackets face Claxton Middle School on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Huge third quarter dooms Claxton
    CLAXTON — After both teams hit the locker rooms with 30 points at the half, Tattnall County exploded to out-score Claxton 25-7 in the third quarter for a 64-45 win Friday.
    Tattnall hit six 3s in the second half.
    Claxton was paced by Cornelious Taylor (23 points) and Joki Thompkins (11).
    Deshon Nails scored 22 for the Warriors.
    Claxton (2-2) faces Metter today at 7:30 p.m.
 
Lady Tigers fall to Tattnall
    CLAXTON — The Claxton Lady Tigers (1-3) lost a close one, 52-45, Friday at home to Tattnall County.
    The Warriors, who were led in scoring by Kierra McDonald (16 points), led by eight at the half, and that was enough to hold off the Tigers.
    Claxton was led by Jazmine Price (16) and Devonna Brewton (14).
    Claxton faces former region rival Metter on the road today at 6 p.m.

Portal JV tops Screven
    SYLVANIA — The junior-varsity Portal Panthers ran away with a season-opening, 55-26 win Friday on the road against Screven County.
    Tyler Budgett scored 17 for the Panthers.
