Statesboro splits unconventional double header
Portal

The Statesboro baseball team befell a peculiar situation Saturday, as it saw them play two games against two different teams in two different cities.
First and foremost was their regularly scheduled series finale with Benedictine, which would end in a 11-6 loss for Statesboro and clinch the series for the Cadets. Benedictine would score seven runs in the first two innings to go up 7-2, but Statesboro fought back in the fourth with a three-run effort to make it 7-5.
Ultimately it was a three-run fifth inning by the Cadets that would seal the game and the series for Benedictine. Statesboro won the initial game Monday 11-0 in five innings, but would drop Wednesday’s game 9-8 and then Saturday’s to lose the series.
Austin Daneils and Ty Tiddick each had three hits for Statesboro, with Daniels also picking up three RBI. Cam Harvey would also notch two hits.
But what made Saturday unusual was the game Statesboro played in the evening against Jeff Davis. This game was a makeup from a game that was rained out on Feb. 22 but could only be made up Saturday night.  So Statesboro drove back from Savannah and salvaged their weekend with a 4-2 win at Mill Creek Park.
With Jeff Davis up 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Statesboro scored three runs in the frame to seal their third win of the season despite being outhit 8-4 and committing three errors.
Ty Tiddick would give Statesboro five strong innings of work on the mound, earning three strikeouts and also driving in a run as a hitter.
Statesboro (3-5) will now prepare for a three-game series this week with Richmond Hill, starting with Monday’s game at Mill Creek Park at 6:00 p.m.
