Southeast Bulloch’s John Page has been selected to coach the South All-Stars in the 2007 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Senior All-Star game Sunday at Savannah State University.
In his 22nd year at SEB, Page said he was surprised to learn the GACA chose him as one of this year’s head coach’s.
“I’ve coordinated GACA events before and have been a member for at least 10 years,” said Page. “I’d offered to coach the event before but I was surprised that this year they finally chose me.”
The GACA selects coaches based on their past history and Page more than meets the credentials. He’ll coach 12 players from around the south, including Statesboro’ Justin Houston. Only players from teams with GACA member coaches are invited to the game.
Alex Moorman from Calvary Day and Roman Button from McIntosh County Academy are just a couple of names from area teams who will join Page and Houston on Sunday.
“We’re going to make it simple for them.” said Page. “We’ll let them use their ability and have the game be decided by the kids. This is the third year the tournament has been in Savannah. I think it’s good to have some of the local kids represented.”
The game will begin at 4 p.m. following the girl’s All-Star game which will feature Screven County’s Kadedra Evans. Page will have about four practices to get to know his team before the whistle sounds on Sunday.
Page has compiled a 247-269 record while at SEB and has reached the state tournament four times.
